Weight Loss and Visualization

The amazing fact is that many conditions can be improved by visualization and weight loss is one of those conditions. It works like this: You just keep a vision in your mind on how you want your body to look, and subconsciously you will start acting in a way that'll go in that direction. You then become way more positive about your body, more accepting of your diet or fitness regime, and then you'll reach your weight goals quicker and easily.

Effecting change using visualizing desired outcomes has become way more acceptable in recent years. Psychologists don't understand exactly how this works, but clearly the mind and body aren't as separate as we believe. It seems that if you really want something done, it is more likely to happen - provided that it's something that is possible, and is within your control. Visualization can help us to really want to lose weight by giving us a clear and happy picture of our fitter bodies. Without this we can often give ourselves psychological traps.

Lots of people who are overweight don't think they can lose weight. Sometimes you may say that out loud, or hear friends say it about themselves. For other people this stays in the subconscious. But it's sure that it influences our behavior. Someone who thinks it's impossible to lose weight will keep battling their own negativity when they are trying to diet. Their mind can be constantly saying that there is no point dieting, that you cannot lose weight so you would just go ahead and eat everything you wants. Visualization is one of the strongest techniques that we can use to overcome these negative thoughts and impulses.

If you're plagued by negativity, from your own mind or from the reactions of friends and family to your diet, try and visualize yourself at your desired weight when ever you can. It works on the same level that all those negative voices work and can annihilate their influence like nothing else can.

It's important to practice this daily - morning and evening if you can. You should take a few minutes in a quiet place keeping an image in your mind of your body at the weight you want. Some people can do this easily, while others need some help. If you got a picture of yourself at your ideal weight in the past, you might find it easier to look at the picture. Or you can use a photo from a magazine and cut off the person's face. You have to visualize your own body, but thinner.

You can also visualize yourself from the inside. Close your eyes focus on a part of your body - for example, your left thigh. Think of it slowly becoming thinner in your mind's eye. Then move to the other thigh, and go through out the body. It can also help to start at the feet and move up towards the head, or the other way around.

As you do your work or daily chores, think of yourself as already being at your ideal weight. Create your own affirmations and say them often, always in the current tense ("I am glad to be flexible, fit and slim", not "I will ..."). Enjoy the feeling of having a positive self-image. Don't think negative. Over time, this will help you lose your extra weight. You will find that fatty foods are less attractive and exercise is more enjoyable when you do this.

Even though your weight loss will be gradual, and not over night, the great thing about visualization is that it quickly gives you a new body image. Start using visualization and weight loss to make yourself happier right now, today!
