Three Weight Loss Myths That Can Give You Health Problems

If you like to regularly read health magazines, you will come across a bunch of tips about how to lose weight. Some tips really do work, but some tips don't. Tips that usually don't work are ones that five you fad diets, weight loss pills and supplements. The secret that actually works for everybody is always simple: diet and exercise. However, the weight loss industry is covered with a lot of myths and false information, and people some times twist the truths, due to their own advantage or out of plain ignorance. Here are three weight loss myths.

1. Myth #1: Spot reduction of fat can be done: This isn't true at all, and all the weight loss experts will unanimously agree to this. You can't force your body to spot reduce fat under any circumstances, no matter what kind of workouts you try to do. For example, of you only do a lot of crunches and leg lifts in the hopes of reducing your belly fat, you will notice that instead of geting less belly fat, you'll reduce the muscle mass that is beneath your abdomen. Because of this, your focus shouldn't be on crunches and leg lifts alone; but you really need to follow a healthy diet that will speed up your metabolic rate and then help you burn your extra fat fast!

2. Myth #2: A major cut on your calorie intake will reduce your body fat: This myth has thrown many people on the brink of crash dieting. People will take to doing crash dieting simply in the hopes of losing all those extra pounds, and not even realizing that crash dieting will harm their bodies and not help them at all. In fact, when you starve yourself, your body soon thinks that you're going to kill it so it then goes into starvation mode. When in starvation mode, your body will slow down metabolic rate and also burns your muscles (not fat, which is then kept in reserve) to make energy. When your body does this, you hardly lose any fat at all; in fact, if anything, you simply lose your very valuable muscles. And as soon as you return to your normal diet, you will then gain extra weight!

3. Myth #3: Just doing cardio exercises will make you lose weight: While it's true that cardio exercises can help you lose some fat, it's not true that cardio exercises is the only type of weight loss exercises you can do. Be sure to remember the aerobics. In fact, how much fat you will lose doing either cardio or aerobics is about the same. A better option is weight lifting. Weight lifting is better than both cardio and aerobics, as it not only helps you burn your fat during the workout, but you burn it even after the workout!

I really hope that this article has brought some of the real weight loss truths to you!
